Great Dane-ish
Recipe Directions:
Preheat Oven to 350°F.
Light Dough
- 4 c whole wheat flour
- 1/2 c cornmeal
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c peanut butter
- 1 1/2 c water
Dark Dough
- 4 c whole wheat flour
- 1/2 c cornmeal
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c molasses
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 T. canola oil
- 1 1/2 c water
Stir the light dough and dark dough separately. Knead each dough, adding flour as necessary, until it has reached a stiff bread/dough consistency. Roll light colored dough on floured surface into a 1/2-inch thick rectangle. Roll out the dark dough to fit the same dimensions. Spritz the top of the light dough with water. Lay dark dough directly on top of light dough. Fold tightly from the long edge like a jellyroll. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze for 1 hour.
Cut 1/2-inch thick pieces. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour. After 1 hour, turn off the oven and crack the door slightly to release heat. Leave treat in oven for approximately 8 hours, or until very hard. Serve to your favorite pet friend to enjoy!
